ENVIRONMENTAL ACOUSTICS

More than 40 years ago the Institute has started its activity on environmental acoustics. The first study dealt with the traffic noise pollution in Rome (1970). The human reactions to noise is still a topic of research. On this aspect the noise index L was proposed by the Institute and researches on annoyance due to
impulsive sounds and tonal components were carried out. This research linked to the human response to noise is still today an important research topic, along with a whole host of other topics under exposed, the subjects of European projects .

OUTDOOR NOISE MONITORING AND NOISE IMPACT ASSESSMENT

QUALITY OF PERCEIVED SOUNDSCAPE

The attention has been focused on sound quality, described by psychoacoustic parameters, of outdoor environment and the perception of soundscape, as new approach to promote a healthier living space.

Inside cars (also equipped with Active Noise Control system) and outdoor machinery(binaural recordings and listening tests in laboratory for appraisal of real and simulated acoustic scenarios). At workplace with noise reduction at the source (diamond silent saw blade for marble cutting)

Measurements of room impulse response (mono and binaural) Speech intelligibility Numerical models for simulation of indoor sound field Auralization
